When Jeni initially encountered her spouse Ray, she had one firm conviction - offspring were not in her future plans.
"Ray wished for no fewer than four youngsters. I considered that absurd. I mean, who raises such a large family?" Jeni explained to Mamamia.
Currently, after more than thirty years together, they proudly parent sixteen children.
$600 weekly on food supplies

Jeni, the matriarch, spends an amazing $600 each week on food supplies just to keep their storage stocked. With rising prices, that budget has increased by $50. For a household of 18 (with 8 children still at home), substantial resources are needed to feed everyone properly.
The weekly shopping list is truly remarkable: 17 three-liter containers of milk, 14 packages of cereal, 45 cups of yogurt, and an incredible four dozen eggs.
"Our family uses 50 liters of milk weekly and one to two bread loaves daily," Jeni states.
Capturing a decent family portrait presents challenges
For most people this creates significant difficulties, but for the Bonells, it's simply part of their life pattern. The Bonell family's domestic existence follows a carefully arranged schedule.
"Taking a good family picture presents challenges," Jeni says with a chuckle. "You require an extra-wide camera lens, and someone is always looking elsewhere, making strange expressions, or blinking. But we appreciate those small oddities in the photos. They aren't flawless, but that's what makes them enjoyable."
With 16 children, the task isn't just photographing them - it's keeping pace with the flurry of daily activities.
Consider having 16 kids, a full-time occupation, part-time work, and a household to operate. That's the reality Jeni and Ray face.
"I previously believed life was hectic with small children," Jeni states, "but I'm definitely busier now with grown kids." Between organizing transport for three distinct schools, sports events, temporary employment, and the older children's education, it requires careful management. Nevertheless, Jeni would not change a thing. "Our schedule is extremely packed – but it's wonderful."
The nighttime procedures in their residence perfectly showcase the Bonell family's lifestyle. "Consider a regular-sized household and multiply by eight, and that represents our evening routine," Jeni chuckles.
Making every cent count
Some evenings bring complete disorder; other nights, everything operates smoothly like clockwork. But regardless of how the evening develops, one element remains constant: mealtime. "Supper is always fantastic," Jeni notes. "Some nights we have eight individuals at the dining table, other nights we host more than 20!"
The Bonells excel at maximizing their financial resources. Jeni has become known for her economical meals that range between $2 and $10. She regularly displays her shopping expeditions on YouTube to assist others in controlling their food expenses.
"Everyone faces financial challenges currently," says Jeni, "We all experience that budget pressure." To maintain organization, Jeni implements a task schedule to distribute household duties, ensuring everyone aged eight and above contributes. The children also learn cooking from an early age. "Our 12-year-old can prepare a roast meal for 20 people with minimal supervision," Jeni mentions proudly.
The washing requirements in their household are similarly enormous. Jeni completes three full washing cycles daily, equivalent to about six standard-sized loads. Regarding grocery shopping, Jeni fills two shopping carts each week. "I consistently need one child to assist with the items," she reveals.
The Bonell Family beliefs
Regarding their monetary situation, the Bonells have discovered ho
w to make compromises. While they continue paying their home loan, financial strains remain significant. "Raising many children costs substantially and you must make budget sacrifices," says Jeni. "But everyone in our family works, and we don't rely on government support. However, we receive considerable criticism for having numerous children."
Although the Bonells maintain strong religious convictions and frequently attend church services, Jeni emphasizes that their large family isn't exclusively the result of their faith.
"God possesses an amusing sense of humor," Jeni remarks. They harbor no regrets, though. "It simply feels appropriate for us," says Ray, who works as an electrical technician. "People must do what suits them. Having 16 children isn't appropriate for everyone, but it functions well for our family."
Despite their packed schedules, Jeni and Ray carve out time for themselves. "Do I secure private moments with my spouse? Naturally, I do. We allocate time for one another," Ray mentions with a grin. "It's vital to care for each other."
Their two eldest offspring have now established their own homes and marriages, enhancing the family structure as Jeni and Ray transition into their roles as grandparents to two grandchildren. This demonstrates how the Bonell clan continues to expand. Yet with each new addition, the affection, joy, and feeling of unity only intensifies.
Their task allocation system
In a household where structure proves essential, the Bonells have established a reliable routine. From readying school attire and packed lunches the previous evening to implementing a rotation scheme for duties, the Bonells ensure everything runs smoothly.
"We utilize a duty chart, so when a child reaches eight years old, they join the chart," Jeni explains. "They cycle through tasks like sweeping, cleaning the floor, clearing the table, and assisting with food preparation."
Regarding snacks, Jeni has several preferred options she reveals to followers on YouTube, including air fryer egg cups and air fryer pizza snacks. Both treats require minimal preparation, can be frozen for later use, and suit school lunches perfectly.
For the Bonells, success centers on developing a system where everyone helps and plays a part. And despite the disorder involved in running a household of 16, it becomes apparent that affection, cooperation, and good humor maintain the Bonell family's prosperity.
Whether feeding their children, managing a home, or finding moments for a brief coffee date, the Bonells accomplish everything — and they do so cheerfully.
