Amazon credit card in the test: Costs, offer and service

The online mail order company Amazon has a credit card with a points system on offer for its customers. We show you what the Amazon credit card can do, what the differences are between Amazon Visa card and Amazon Visa credit card and for whom the Amazon credit card is particularly worthwhile - the credit card from Amazon in check.
Amazon also offers its customers a credit card. This offers great advantages for Amazon shoppers: You can combine the large product range with a credit card bonus program - and save money. If you pay for your purchases with the Amazon VISA credit card, you collect one bonus point after the other. You can then redeem the points when you make a subsequent Amazon purchase.
In cooperation with the Bank of America, Amazon offers its customers two variants of the Visa credit card: a free Amazon Prime credit card for subscription customers and an Amazon credit card for non-subscription customers. We tested the mail-order company’s offer for you and took a close look at the services, costs and Amazon service. For whom is the Amazon credit card really worthwhile?
AMAZON CREDIT CARD IN THE TEST
AMAZON PRIME CUSTOMER LOYALTY PROGRAM - DID YOU KNOW ABOUT IT?
Amazon Prime customers enjoy numerous benefits with the Prime subscription, such as free shipping or Prime or same-day delivery. Prime members can also stream selected movies and series from Prime Video. The Amazon credit card complements the benefits of the membership, which costs $7.99 per month or $69.00 per year.
Tip: Students get off even cheaper: The first Prime year is free for them, after that they pay half of the regular membership.
Incidentally, the Amazon credit card has been on the market for some time. For example, Amazon has been offering the credit card to American customers since 2006. The mail-order company launched the exclusive Amazon Prime Visa card in October 2018.
THIS IS WHAT THE AMAZON CREDIT CARD HAS TO OFFER: ATTRACTIVE PAYMENT SYSTEM AND STARTING BALANCE
This much we have already revealed: With the Amazon credit card, you collect bonus points with every Amazon purchase, which you can use when making future purchases on Amazon. How many points can you collect with the Amazon credit card? For every full dollars of sales, Amazon Prime customers collect three bonus points, which are equivalent to three cents. Amazon customers without Prime membership earn two bonus points with every full dollars, which in turn equals two cents. Wherever VISA is accepted, Visa cardholders can also collect points: Regardless of whether you are an Amazon Prime or Amazon customer, for every two dollars you pay with your Amazon Visa card at external merchants, you receive one bonus point.
Extra tip: Those who apply for the Amazon credit card for the first time, by the way, receive a monetary starting credit from the online retailer. For the Amazon.de Prime VISA Card and the Amazon.de VISA Card, customers get 40 dollars for free.
Unlike many other credit cards, for example the Lufthansa Miles and More credit card, Amazon credit card holders do not receive an additional insurance package. However, as our credit card comparison shows, many insurance packages in combination with credit cards are very expensive anyway and are rarely recommended.
THIS IS HOW MUCH THE AMAZON CREDIT CARD COSTS
How much you pay as a customer for the Amazon Visa card depends on your customer status and thus on their Amazon credit card. There are no annual fees for Amazon Prime customers, Amazon customers receive the credit card for free in the first year, after which they pay an annual fee of 19.90 dollars. This means that if you order from Amazon for about 1,000 dollars a year as an Amazon customer without a Prime subscription, you can recoup the annual price of the credit card. A second card is also free for Amazon Prime customers. Non-subscription customers pay 9.99 dollars per year for the second card.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE COSTS WHEN WITHDRAWING MONEY ABROAD WITH THE AMAZON CREDIT CARD
Tip: If you deposit credit on your card account in advance, withdrawing cash with the Amazon credit card is free of charge. After all, you will not be using your credit card’s credit limit.
