In response to the latest court ruling against Trump, truck drivers have announced a boycott. Starting today, they want to avoid New York. The hashtag “Boycott NYC” was picked up on X by over 13,000 people.
Truck drivers who support former US President Donald Trump have called for a boycott of the city of New York, as the news magazine “Independent ” reports. In doing so, they want to express their displeasure at a sentence imposed on the ex-president by a New York court.
“Truckers are (95%) Trump,” wrote user Chicago1Ray on X, formerly Twitter. “I’ve been talking to drivers on the radio for the last hour,” the user said in a video message showing him wearing sunglasses and a Trump cap. Truckers would begin to stop delivering goods to New York City from Monday. “I don’t know how much this call will spread across the country, or how many truckers will join. But I’ll tell you what: You’ll find the hell out.”
The video seems to have attracted some attention. As of Sunday morning, the hashtag “Boycott NYC” had been mentioned on X in more than 13,000 posts.
The reason for the truckers’ anger is the recent court ruling against Trump, which sentenced the former US president in New York to pay more than 350 million dollars (around 325 million euros). In addition, Trump was banned from running businesses in the state of New York for three years.
“How about a three-year boycott of the state?”
“They banned President Trump from doing business in New York for three years,” wrote another user on X and suggested: “How about a three-year boycott of the state?”
Following the judge’s ruling, Trump himself once again lashed out at the public prosecutor’s office and the judge and spoke of “hypocrisy”. The 77-year-old Republican claimed last Friday that the entire trial was part of a “witch hunt” against him ordered by his successor Joe Biden. He will appeal and win.
