After over two decades since the release of Freaky Friday, enthusiasts of the popular film will soon enjoy a continuation. The follow-up, titled Freakier Friday, was revealed in May last year and will hit screens on August 8 this year.

The film will again feature Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as the mother-daughter pair Tess and Anna Coleman in the beloved movie. Returning cast members from the original include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Lucille Soong and Rosalind Chao.

New additions to the cast include Manny Jacinto and Julia Butters, with Nisha Gantra replacing Mark Waters as director. Gantra previously directed the Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling film Late Night.

For those unfamiliar with the initial cult classic, the story follows the main characters who swap bodies after a heated argument one Friday, allowing them to experience and better understand each other's lives.

Freaky Friday achieved box office success and holds an impressive 88 percent Tomatoemeter rating - making it a go-to favorite for good reason. The film earned more than $160 million worldwide on a $26 million budget, proving a commercial triumph.

The upcoming Freakier Friday synopsis states: "Years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice."

Fans have expressed their excitement on Twitter. One user wrote: "I speak for everyone when I say we will be watching." Another added: "This could be more fun than the original. Count me in." A third simply posted: "IM SOOOO EXCITED!!!"

In 2023, marking 20 years since the original 2003 film, Curtis shared a selfie with Lohan on Instagram. Her caption read: "Too late. YOU GREW UP and SO BEAUTIFULLY! Well, it's Friday, and the strike is over, so hopefully we can switch places again in the near future! @lindsaylohan @disney."
