Olivia Wilde slams Katy Perry's Blue Origin space trip with brutal 8 word comment
Director of Don't Worry Darling, Olivia Wilde, has added her voice to those questioning a recent celebrity space venture. Tycoon Jeff Bezos successfully launched several well-known individuals on a short but groundbreaking space journey in his private Blue Origin vessel on Monday (April 14), including his partner, media professional Lauren Sánchez, and vocalist Katy Perry. The group also comprised former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, science researcher Amanda Nguyễn, and TV host Gayle King, making up the first all-female space crew since 1963.
Many critics have questioned the purpose of this seemingly trivial yet extremely costly expedition. Wilde shared her blunt thoughts on Instagram, posting a popular internet joke showing Perry kissing the ground after exiting the spacecraft captioned: "Getting off a commercial flight in 2025." She added her own sharp comment: "Billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess."
Her remarks come amid ongoing discussions about whether the trip deserves to be labeled a 'space mission,' as passengers in the self-flying craft merely reached the edge of space. They experienced weightlessness for only minutes near the Karman Line before descending back to Earth with loud reactions before landing in Texas.

The 41-year-old filmmaker isn't alone in her criticism. Actress Olivia Munn expressed her concerns while guest hosting on Today with Jenna and Friends, stating: "I know this probably isn't the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now." She continued, "I know this is probably obnoxious, but like, it's so much money to go to space, and there's a lot of people who can't even afford eggs," describing the trip as 'gluttonous'.
Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski also expressed strong disapproval on TikTok, calling the event 'beyond parody'. She questioned: "Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space... For what? What was the marketing there?" She concluded: "I'm disgusted."
Comedian Amy Schumer seemingly took a playful jab at Perry, who brought a daisy to space as a symbol for her daughter of the same name. Schumer quipped about receiving a "last second" invitation to space, saying she would bring a Black Panther toy. "I'm bringing this thing. It has no meaning to me, but it was in my bag, and I was on the subway, and I got the text, and they were like, 'Do you want to go to space?' So I'm going to space," she mocked.

Meanwhile, Sánchez defended against the criticism before the journey, stating: "I would love to have them come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don't just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle. They love their work and they love the mission and it's a big deal for them." She added, "So when we hear comments like that, I just say, 'Trust me. Come with me. I'll show you what this is about, and it's really eye-opening.'"
