Johnny Depp was among several actors who contributed a substantial gift to Heath Ledger's daughter following his tragic death. Ledger, recognized for his performances in "The Dark Knight," "Brokeback Mountain" and "10 Things I Hate About You," died unexpectedly at 28 in his New York home. Medical examiners later determined his death resulted from an accidental overdose. He left behind his young daughter Matilda Rose, born in 2005 to actress Michelle Williams, whom he met while filming "Brokeback Mountain" in 2004. Ledger's sudden passing stunned the entertainment industry, prompting many celebrity friends to support Matilda.

Depp showed exceptional kindness by giving his earnings from the 2009 film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" to Matilda. This fantasy movie became Ledger's final project and one of two films released after his death, along with "The Dark Knight." Fellow actors Colin Farrell and Jude Law also donated their payments from the film to the then two-year-old girl. Though Matilda received financial security through these gifts, she later inherited Ledger's estate—valued at approximately $20 million (£15 million)—after his family voluntarily transferred it to her.

Now 19 years old, Matilda maintains a private life and reportedly lives with her mother in New York City. Ledger's acting reputation was secured with his performance opposite Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan's 2008 blockbuster "The Dark Knight." His portrayal of the Joker earned him numerous awards, including an Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. His interpretation of the character deeply affected his co-stars, with Michael Caine stating in his memoir, "Don't Look Back, You'll Trip Over: My Guide to Life," that he was "absolutely floored" and "terrified" when first seeing Ledger in character. Caine added, "We were all terribly shocked, and it made doing the publicity for 'The Dark Knight' that summer much more intense, because all the journalists wanted to talk about his death. It still makes me sad to think of it... [it's] a performance for the ages."
