NFL prospect Kyren Lacy, 24, dies from apparent suicide as father makes heartbreaking statement
The ex-Louisiana State University player had entered this year's NFL draft after his outstanding performance with the LSU Tigers last season. A police pursuit began after officers responded to a welfare call. Reports indicate a female relative called 911 on Saturday evening (April 12) after a verbal disagreement resulted in Lacy firing his weapon into the ground.
When police arrived at the location, they found Lacy had already left in his vehicle. Law enforcement spotted him nearby and tried to stop him, but he continued driving.
Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Lacy crashed his automobile, and police discovered him deceased with what they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound upon approaching the vehicle.
His father Kenny Lacy has released a poignant statement urging parents to discuss mental health openly with their children.

"Young parents, begin conversations with your children early and ensure they feel secure sharing their feelings with you," he stated. "Don't accept 'I'm Alright' or 'I'm good' when you sense something is wrong. Mental Health is genuine, and mostly invisible - pay attention to all signs, even small ones."
"Our lives are forever changed and this will never be acceptable, but God required my child more than he was needed here. This is the hardest challenge our families have faced, but I know our family's love and sympathy will help us endure."
"This pain won't diminish, but we'll adjust to it. Monitor your children's mental health!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The wide receiver was scheduled to face a grand jury today regarding his involvement in a deadly accident in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, last December. He faced charges of felony hit-and-run, negligent homicide and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Police reports claim Lacy drove dangerously when another driver veered to avoid his vehicle and collided head-on with a different car. The motorist tragically died shortly after being taken to hospital. Lacy surrendered to authorities the next month and was released on bail.
