Tourist submarine sinks in Red Sea killing at least 6 people
Local Egyptian news outlets report that six individuals have perished and nine others sustained injuries when a submarine capsized in the Red Sea. The tourist vessel, known as 'Sindbad', was positioned in Hurghada, preparing to transport visitors to view coral formations, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper.

Approximately 44 travelers of various nationalities had boarded the submarine while it was docked near a prominent Hurghada hotel's marina today (March 27). Following the vessel's descent, emergency teams initiated a rescue mission. The Red Sea Health Directorate and Egyptian Ambulance Authority reportedly elevated their response status and dispatched 21 medical vehicles to the location, alongside security and rescue personnel.
Authorities have successfully extracted 29 passengers from the submerged craft, Al-Masry Al-Youm states. Among the nine wounded individuals, four remain in severe condition.
Sindbad has conducted tourist excursions in the Hurghada region for many years. Their website indicates ownership of two vessels from the world's limited collection of '14 authentic recreational submarines'. The company offers tourists descents to 25 metres (82 feet) underwater to explore '500 metres of coral reef and its aquatic residents'.

"Descend below sea level for 40 minutes enjoying the corals and fish with divers show to capture photos for unforgettable memories, then return via the same vessel to the harbor," Sindbad Submarines advertises.
Regarding the vessel specifications, Sindbad Submarines' website adds: "It accommodates 44 passenger seats. Two pilots' positions and a large circular viewing portal for each guest. Witness the splendor of the Red Sea's undersea environment without getting drenched. It's suitable for every age group and creates lasting impressions."
"We supply direct transportation from your accommodation to our facility, including ground-sea travel, all with superior service quality."

The company website mentions that oxygen devices and flotation equipment are accessible inside the vessel for emergencies. Typical excursions begin with registration at 11am local time, followed by a boat transfer to the submarine, which passengers board around 12:35pm. News of the sinking emerged shortly before noon.
