Trump explains what will happen if countries refuse to make a deal during 90 day tariff pause

Donald Trump has shown what might occur if nations don't create 'a deal beneficial for both sides' during the current tariff conflict. On April 9, China declared it would implement **an extra 84 percent tariff on all products imported from the US after Trump's choice to enforce 104 percent tariffs. Trump responded by raising the tariffs on Chinese products to 125 percent 'with immediate effect'.

While Trump engages in tariff exchanges with China, other affected countries have found some relief. The POTUS granted a 90-day delay on other nations' tariffs provided they haven't - and don't intend to - announce counter-tariffs like China. Yet, the situation remains complex. Trump stated that although the larger tariffs would be delayed, 'a much reduced Reciprocal Tariff of 10 percent during this time' was still 'effective right away'.

But what occurs if nations don't reach an agreement within that 90-day period? At a press conference, when asked if he would 'implement the higher tariffs or extend the delay,' Trump cautioned: "Well, that's what would happen."

"I mean, if we can't create the deal we want to make or must make or that's beneficial for both sides - and it needs to be good for both sides - then we return to where we were."

And by 'where we were,' Trump indeed said he 'thinks so' when asked if that would mean returning to the tariffs first revealed on countries as part of America's 'Liberation Day'. However, he added: "We'll need to see what happens at that time."

Well, whether that means back to the original tariffs, raising them or lowering them, I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

Later in the conference, a reporter asked if countries will be able to discuss the 10 percent baseline tariff and reduce it.

Trump answered: "It depends on what they're adding. You know, some countries we have huge deficits with or they have big surpluses with us and others it's not that way."

"So it depends, they're all different - every country is different, some have certain advantages that others don't have and certain things."

The president claimed China has a 'crazy' 'surplus of a trillion dollars' while other countries 'have basically no surpluses'.

He concluded: "We have some that are pretty even, they just harm us in other ways and we just want to get that fixed."
