Police swarmed the Eagle Rock area in Los Angeles on Tuesday (April 8) following reports of a hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway. Law enforcement stated that three individuals allegedly escaped from the crash site into nearby homes at approximately 3:25pm PT, triggering a massive search by California Highway Patrol.

During their search, officers found a woman, identified as Jillian Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, reportedly holding a gun outside her residence. The 51-year-old woman - unconnected to the hit-and-run - supposedly ignored multiple requests to drop her weapon and allegedly aimed the gun at police officers.

Police fired shots, hitting the bassist's wife, reportedly in the shoulder, according to TMZ. After being shot, the New Jersey-born author allegedly went inside her house before coming back out and giving herself up alongside another woman, later confirmed as the family's childcare provider. She received treatment at a nearby hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot injury.

A subsequent search of the house uncovered a 9-millimetre handgun. Police have since charged Jillian with attempted murder related to the confrontation with officers. LAPD confirmed no officers or other people were hurt during the exchange of gunfire and emphasized that Jillian had no connection to the hit-and-run case.

KLTA reports that both Jillian and the childcare provider have since been freed from police detention. Jillian married musician Scott Shriner in 2005. The bassist joined the rock group Weezer in 2001, replacing previous member Mikey Welsh. The couple has two adopted children and reside together at the same address.

Regarding the crash, news sources indicate a multi-vehicle hit-and-run caused disorder in LA while police conducted an extensive manhunt. One suspect was reportedly arrested wearing only underwear, while two other men remain unfound. Witnesses told KTLA they observed at least one suspect leaving the crash location on foot.

Los Angeles police eventually caught the suspect near Waldo Place and Eagle Vista Drive intersection. He faces likely charges of felony hit and run, according to CBS News. Reports suggest he had stripped to his underwear and tried to blend into the neighborhood by swimming in someone's pool and watering plants.
