Trump claims ‘loophole’ could allow him to run for a third term in bizarre interview as he says ‘a lot of people’ want him to
Donald Trump has again hinted at pursuing a third presidential term, despite constitutional restrictions. Trump currently serves his second and supposedly final four-year stint as US president, as the 22nd Amendment bars individuals from seeking a third term. According to the National Constitution Center, this amendment clearly states: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once." Nevertheless, Trump believes loopholes exist and has repeatedly suggested running again. He even previously claimed he has collected money for another campaign.

Although the President appeared to jest when discussing this topic before, he now confirms his seriousness about potential "methods" to remain in office. In a conversation with NBC News on March 30, Trump remarked about another term: "A lot of people want me to do it. But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it's very early in the administration."
When directly questioned about seeking a third term, the 78-year-old responded: "I like working. I'm not joking. But I'm not - it is far too early to think about it."
One possible strategy involves Vice President JD Vance running for office and subsequently transferring power to Trump. Trump verified this as one approach, but refused to share additional "methods."
Supporting his ambitions is a new bill proposed by US Representative Andy Ogles. Ogles seeks to modify the long-standing 22nd Amendment to allow Trump to continue as president until 2032.

Ogles desires the language of the suggested amendment to state: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice." This modification would permit individuals like Trump to campaign again, but would exclude Barack Obama or Bill Clinton.
